Episode 104: Vint Cerf has a lot of questions on IoT

This week we discuss a personal assistant from Samsung, Amazon Alexa on phones and mistakes from Google Home. We also talk about a Legend of Zelda superfan and how he controls his home through an ocarina. We then talk about ARM’s new architecture and discuss two deals ARM did last month to boost support for low power wide area networks. Finally, I now have my SmartThings and Lutron integration working, and it’s awesome!

  1. Just listened to episode 104 and wanted to let you know that a Harry Potter wand as a remote control already exists. Last week I was in a Barnes & Noble when I spotted one:

    http://www.harrypottershop.com/product/harry+potter+remote+control+wand+by+noble+collection+hpnbwandlurc.do?ref=CAFRGL&CAWELAID=530009540000000976&gclid=CJ-SltOd7dICFUlNfgodd9IJQQ

The one I saw is IR only, but I agree it would be fun if they offered one with integration into Smart Things and other home automation systems. Imagine turning lights, a coffee pot, sprinklers, etc with a command and gesture from the wand!

Anyway, thanks for the podcast and I appreciate you sharing your real-life experiences with some of these products. Always informative and helpful.
